Film-ED Cinema: The Shroud, Inside.

We have created a platform for young film makers from across Africa to showcase their fashion films. We will be sharing films 100% created by creatives living and working in Africa to showcase their work in the FILM-ed Cinema.

The Shroud, Inside.

This film aims to address depression among young black youth in South Africa, but it can also address an international audience with its universal message. Mental illness is often overlooked by African communities and is deemed to be a thing which doesn’t exist or isn’t something serious. Many people often cannot access healthcare for mental illness due to this. Red and Kalai teamed up to conceptualize a fashion film which highlights the struggle experienced by sufferers of depression. The two intersecting character story lines in the film portray the thoughts and experiences different individuals have through various points of their depressive episodes. We understand that this is a sensitive topic and in no way do we intend to marginalize the experiences of individuals diagnosed with depression.
